What moving with Moovers is like

A good move is a boring move, and boring takes a process. This page is that process in order, from the first phone call to the last box, so you know what happens next at every stage and who to talk to when something changes.

The first call or the form

You either call (631) 256-4498 or fill in the form at /quote. Either way the first conversation is short and it is about facts: where you are moving from and to, roughly when, how big the place is, and whether either end has stairs, an elevator or difficult parking.

We reply the same business day. Nobody is going to sell at you on that call. The point of it is to work out what kind of job this is and whether an in-person walkthrough makes sense.

The walkthrough

For anything of a decent size we would rather see the house than describe it over the phone. We come to you, walk every room including the garage, basement, attic and shed, look at the stairs, the doorways and the parking, and ask what is going and what is not.

On moves of two bedrooms and up, the in-person visit is also when you get the free Starter Kit: three boxes, two rolls of tape and one moving blanket, yours whether or not you book. Details are at /starter-kit.

For smaller moves, or when a schedule will not allow a visit, a video walkthrough covers most of the same ground.

Your quote, and what it commits you to

You get a price, in writing, along with what is included in it. It commits you to nothing. Quotes are free, there is no obligation to book, and nobody will chase you about it.

Read it and ask the awkward questions while you have someone on the phone: what is not included, what would change the number, what happens if a closing date slips. Those are exactly the questions we would rather answer now than on the morning of the move.

Booking, and the weeks in between

Once you take the date, you have a point of contact at the office who stays with your job from booking through the last box. If something on our end changes, that is the person who calls you. If something on your end changes, that is the person to call.

Bring us the building requirements as soon as you have them, especially a certificate of insurance or a reserved elevator window, because those take lead time. If you want storage added because a date might slip, that is easier to arrange now than in the last week.

The day, and who is in charge of it

A crew arrives inside your window with a lead who runs the job. The lead walks the house with you before anything is lifted, and is the person you talk to all day. Floor protection goes down, furniture gets padded and wrapped where it stands, and the truck is loaded in a deliberate order.

At the new address the same crew unloads, puts back together what they took apart, walks the empty truck with you, and then walks the house with you before anyone signs anything. The full hour-by-hour version is on our move day guide.

After the last box

The job is not finished when the truck pulls away. If something turns up damaged, or a piece of hardware is missing, or an item ended up in the wrong room and needs shifting, tell us. There is a page on this site that lays out exactly how to raise it and what happens next.

If it went well, the most useful thing you can do is say so in public and tell one person who is about to move. That is where most of our work comes from.
