Short-term moving storage on Long Island

Short-term storage covers the gap: you close on one house before you can get into the next, the apartment is not ready, the floors are being redone. Your things go on the truck once, sit in the facility, and come back out when you say so.

Why the gap happens

Two closings almost never land on the same day, and when they do, one of them slips. Renters hit the same problem from the other direction, with a lease ending weeks before a new one starts. Renovations create the third version: the house is yours but the floors are being refinished or the kitchen is not in yet, and putting furniture back in the middle of it makes no sense.

The alternative most people try first is a self-storage unit, which means renting a truck, loading it, unloading it into the unit, and then doing all of that again in reverse. Storage in transit skips both middle steps. The crew loads once and delivers once.

The inventory in and out

Everything is tagged and written down as it comes off the truck at the facility, so what goes in is a list rather than a pile. When redelivery comes around, that same list is what gets checked off at your door. If only part of it is coming out, tell us which rooms and we will pull those tags.

Pack it as if it is being stored, because it is

Storage is harder on things than a same-day move. Boxes get stacked and sit stacked, so weak cartons and half-full boxes collapse under the ones above them. Fill boxes to the top, tape the bottoms properly, and keep the heavy ones small.

Some things should not go in at all: food, anything perishable, candles, aerosols, and flammables. Ask about temperature-sensitive items before they go on the truck, because instruments, vinyl records, artwork, electronics and certain wood finishes all have limits.

Getting it back

Redelivery is scheduled the way the original move was, so give as much notice as you can once your date firms up. If you need one specific item out of storage before the rest, say so when it goes in and it can be loaded near the front.
